Dar D’bagha (The Tannery)
Oil on Canvas - 2010 - 46cm x 61cm - (available, unframed - $650 USD)
For centuries, Morocco has been known for its quality tanned leather. In this composition I wanted to highlight the stark difference between the white and brown vats, divided diagonally and by the “rule of thirds,” with the tannery worker contrasted above the lighter vats. It was a challenge to capture both ancient dry masonry textures and slippery wet hides.
